You walk into the gym and you see lines of cardio machines, people exercising while talking on the phones, watching tv or even having conversations with neighbors. All the while making sure to stay in their " FAT BURNING ZONES ".
Then you notice a guy tucked away in the corner of the gym, headphones on, in the zone, huffing and puffing and sweating. He's squat jumps and swinging a kettlebell. All you know is that it looks intense and far from traditional and you can't look away. And your asking what hell is going on there?
Well, this guy in the corner was doing a form of cardio that I call CARDIO STRENGTH TRAINING (training highlighted by intense bouts of exercise and short rest periods. The question that begs to be asked is why so many people are still carrying excess fat while this guy looks strong, lean and athletic. Well, first of all, this individual guy definitely had a plan in his choose of exercise. His goals were simple, get the most bang for his bucks with these intervals and create the ever important afterburn effect in his metabolism that will serve as a calorie-burning furnace for hours and hours following his session.
The whole concept of exercising at lower intensities in order to maximize the amount of fat that you burn, rather that sugar and carbohydrate, is one of the great exercise MYTHS of all time. Sure, you do burn a greater percentage of fat when exercising at lower intensities but not necessarily a great amount of total fat and calories.
WHO is this type of training for? The intensity of this type of exercise normally leads people to believe that it's for athletes or young people rather than the general population. This couldn't be further from the truth. I will talk about how you can manipulate interval training, even if you are a first timer. Sure, this type of training can get the competitive athlete ready for his sports demands but it can also help the working mothers and fathers who wants to shed fat and have more energy to play with there kids.
HOW do I perform this type of training?
I will talk about many different methods of cardio strength training. You will build your fitness up and shedding fat and ten great part is that you will NOT compromise valuable muscle mass.
